With lectures and workshops by artists, theorists, activists and experts such as Harry Gamboa Jr., Evgeny Morozov, Stavros Stavrides and Kerstin Bergendal, the Summer School ‘MAKING PUBLICDOMAIN' will examine how public domain can be made and what role art can play in this.
Public space does not simply exist, it must be created and activated constantly. Which strategies—artistic, civil, activist, social, political, or legal—are able to generate public space? An interdisciplinary group of participants and guests from fields such as art, architecture, sociology, urban studies, law and journalism will tackle a different theme each day, by means of workshops, lectures, artistic interventions and case studies.
Summer School participants will be actively involved in a five-day exchange between artists and experts unraveling the concepts and practice of ‘making public domain’. They will participate in and contribute to the discussion from their own perspective and experience. In the evenings the Summer School offers free and freely accessible keynote lectures on the theme of the day to a wider audience.
