Berend Strik (1960, NL) is mostly known for his embroideries, which are often based on photographs. In these works, the softness and gossamer quality of the material usually contrast with the harshness of the subjects – pornography, for instance. Strik’s oeuvre spans the most diverse arrays of themes: carnival clubs, cloned sheep, same-sex marriage, newborn babies, love. He makes use of a wide variety of media, including photography, video, stained glass, sculptures and architectonic installations.
